The DC Adventure!

Tomorrow, bright and early, I will be leaving for The DC Adventure.  I can’t decide which part I’m more excited about.  Washington is one of my favorite places on the planet, so the thought of going there AND seeing the Caps play is really exciting.

I may or may not live-blog the car ride down there since I finally got myself a car charger for my phone.  That depends on how bored I get/how obnoxious I want to be.  Stay tuned.

I’ll be at the game tomorrow night which will supposedly be shown on Versus….?  Like I said in a previous post, I think I’ll have an embarrassing sign with me.  I plan on making it during the Sabres game tonight.  I have no shame.  (But don’t worry, it doesn’t involve marriage proposals.  So I guess I do have a little shame.)

Friday we’re doing all the Washington monuments and memorials and a few museums.  We’ve already had several heated debates within the family about which ones to go to, since some of us have seen certain museums more often than others.  I hope to hit up the Holocaust Museum for visit #4 because that one never gets old and I’d like to see the Smithsonian Museum of American History since out of the Smithsonians I’ve seen that one the least.  Actually, I’m not sure if I’ve ever been there.  Hmm.  I can’t wait to see the cherry blossoms.  I’ve already been there one other time when they were in bloom and if you haven’t then trust me on this:  it’s one of those things you’ve got to see before you die.

We talked about going to a Caps practice if they have one but nixed it.  Oh well, that’ll give me an excuse to come back for a game.

I fully plan on taking a picture with the Capstronaut if he’s there.  100%.  I will also be getting one with Slapshot.  I’m bringing my coupon from the Caps Kids Club (where the kids get in the game!) to redeem for my Slapshot bobblehead.  I may or may not lie about whether the bobblehead is for me or my “younger sister,” but if they ask for my membership ID (Yeah, I know.  I have an ID card and everything.  It’s legit.) I’ll have to be honest with them.

The Caps have looked none too good lately and I’m thinking that 1.) it’s because Brooks was out and he’ll be returning tomorrow night so no worries! and 2.) little a-holes, slumping right before I come to a game.

Several members of my family are a little disappointed to learn that instead of seeing Ilya Kovalchuk and the Thrashers, they’re seeing the Ex-Sabres.  I’m just excited to see Zachity Zach.

Alex Ovechkin WILL have a crappy game tomorrow night.  He will not register any points, he’ll look terrible, people will scratch their heads.  I promise.  It always happens when I’m at the games.  I guess it’s three cheers for consistency.

The Sabres better beat the snot out of Florida because Ottawa is breathing down their necks and they just need to get the points and lock this baby up.

Again?!

Here’s the deal: Yes, I’m very happy the Sabres came back and won that game, and yes, I feel really bad for Hedberg. Poor thing. He deserved better. But while I still get giddy thinking about the comeback against the Penguins, this game just bugged me. Why the eff can’t this team show up in the first period? Eventually they’re going to run into a team they can’t come back against. I don’t understand.

I’m glad Ilya and Evander scored, I’m sad Zachity Zach didn’t. I do love those boys.

I know the Sabres are second in the conference, but I just don’t feel like they’re a good team. How can you do so well when you have no offense and your power play sucks most of the time?

Paul Gaustad seemed very pissy. I would imagine it has something to do with him not making the Olympics. I’m rather upset that he didn’t. Other than that, I wasn’t too surprised by the roster. They’re going to need a miracle to do any damage. And I don’t mean that as a pun.

The Winter Classic was cool to see, but the game itself was kind of boring. I’m glad there was a fight and the ending was interesting, but that’s all. I’ve already gotten to see the Sabres in one, how much longer until the Caps get theirs?

Speaking of the Caps, I’m a fan of the commercials. They better right the failboat today.

Time to go do work. Ew.

The Flames Were In Town Tonight.

I was out to dinner and consequently missed the first period.  I hear it was wonderful.  It certainly sounds as though it was.  They finally scored on the power play?  Wooooo!!  The second period was fast, but I was not at all pleased with the lack of shots and the plethora of penalties taken by the Sabres.  Then Sir Christopher had to stand up for Ryan, as he’s a chivalrous soul and protecting his goaltender is one of his money duties.  Then the Flames tried to beat up Clarkey, then Goosie beat up Phaneuf.  I liked the last one a lot.  I don’t like Phaneuf, and I do like Goose, so I enjoy seeing the latter punch the first.  Serves you right, Dion.

It was really great getting to see Jarome Iginla.  He’s an incredibly talented player and we don’t ever get to see him because he’s aaaaallll the way on the west coast.

The Sabres took sixteen too many penalties tonight.  Good heavens, they looked like last year’s box-loving Caps.

I thought RJ was going to stroke out in the last thirty second of overtime.  Rick, you are not as young as you used to be.  Don’t overexert yourself.

The game ended up in the shootout, and, miracle of miracles, the Sabres pulled out the win.  Oooh!! Aaah!!  Weee!!  Good job, Sabres.  You ended up with a grand total of six shots on goal (going from the two periods I saw), but you managed the win.  Excellent, excellent.  I know this is asking far too much of you, but a win tomorrow night would be superb.  Philly is a scary, intimidating team, but I have complete faith in you.  Put your mind to it, boys, and you can do it.  All in all, though, tonight you played a highly entertaining game.  Much better than Wednesday night.  Thank you.

There’s no way Lala starts tomorrow night.

The Caps played the Wild.  Perrault continued to be badass.  Mike Knuble broke his finger and is out 3-4 weeks and I am very sad.  I love Mike Knuble.  Mike Knuble is a good leader and he’s good at killing penalties and he liked my sign.  Poor Mike Knuble.  Varly is slowly working his way back into my good graces.  The Caps have issues to work out, but they’ve looked pretty darn good over the past few games (aside from giving up 3 quick ones to the Islanders and then borderline choking in the final minute against them and taking eleven rounds of the shootout to beat them).  I like it.

The Hurricanes lost their 14th straight game.  It used to be really funny when everyone was wondering if they’d make it to ten.  Now it’s just sad.  Should we send in aid?  Is there something we can do to put them out of their misery?

The Thrashers beat the Kings 7-0.  This is totes awesome.  Thrashers, you rock.  I love you.  Ilya, Evander, AND Zachity Zach all scored.  That’s what we call an awesome game.  I should have watched it.  I’ve never tried watching three games at once before.  I mis try this some time.  Atlanta is certainly worthy.

I got tapped last minute for  babysitting gig tomorrow night.  I’ll be able to watch the Sabres after the kiddies go to bed and they get CBC, but I will be unable to see the Capitals.  This pretty much guarantees that Alex will come back and score a hat trick.  Awesome.

Third Periods Are Problematic.

I think third periods must have slept with the Caps’ girlfriends or something, because this team does not like them and do not play well in them. They’re really lucky that Varly came through for them and managed to prevent Zachity Zach from single-handedly winning the Thrashers.

I wish Alex would just score a hat trick already.

The Thrashers don’t look as good without Ilya. I hope he comes back soon.

Lars is so good at hockey.

I hope this doesn’t happen when they play the Islanders tomorrow night. That would be quite upsetting.

In other, Sabres-related news: TYLER IS STAYING!!!!!!! AAAHHH!!! TYLER! I LOVE YOU!

This wasn’t a surprise to me, but I’m still insanely excited. TYLER YOU SHALL SAVE US ALL!

Not that we’re putting to much pressure on him or anything.

Yay Christopher!!

Christopher Clark, my secret beloved, scored a goal last night.  It was lovely.  I did a happy dance during the highlights when I saw it.

It wasn’t, however, anywhere near as badass as Jeff Schultz’s goal.  That.  Was.  Hilarious.  Like, seriously, Atlanta.  I love you lots, but goals like that make me want to claw my eyes out.  ‘Cept when Varly assists on them.  Then it’s a-o-k.

The Caps/Thrashers game last night was pretty ridiculous.  I missed the first two periods and my dad was sending me score updates and then when I came home it was 5-2.  Washington ended up winning, but it was by a final score of 5-4.  The Capitals need to work on third periods badly.  I’m a wee bit concerned.

Ilya Kovalchuk is pretty beast.  Just throwing that out there.  I know I say how much I love him, but I never really pay all that much attention to him.  He’s huge.  He’s also insanely good at hockey.  I always knew I liked him.

ZACHITY ZACH SCORED A GOAL FOR ME!!  That is all I have to say about that.

I didn’t look this up for last night in particular, but WHOA, the Capitals took/take a lot of penalties.  It’s redonk.  They must look into this matter and fix this as well.

I’m really starting to regret my decision to babysit for six hours tomorrow night.  I’m totally in the mood for a two-games/Don Cherry Saturday night.

I really don’t know what to think about the Sabres game tomorrow night.  Apparently Tampa Bay beat the Sharks…?  Although from what I’ve seen, the Sharks have looked more like little fishies this year.  They did not impress me when they played Washington.

Just watch this video.  There will never, ever be a time when these three don’t completely crack me up.  I always knew there was a reason I liked the bum in the sweats.

Just Some Videos And Things

Word on the street is that our own Drew Stafford has signed a contract extension, but since the Sabres haven’t confirmed it yet and I haven’t gotten a text yet, I’m not going to comment on it.

Other than that they better not be overpaying the inconsistent little jerk.

I’ve been back to school for two whole days…and I’ve already started my count down till next summer.  Heh.  The best part so far was in our Welcome Back assembly when they told us that the best way we can get involved is by dressing up for Halloween and Homecoming week.  Wow, I never knew giving back to your school was so easy.

I was going to put up my Sabres preview this weekend, but I think I’ll wait and post it next weekend.  Sorry to let you all down.

Alexander is returning to the US of A tomorrow, which is very exciting.  Supposedly Lars is already back, which is also very exciting.  On Wednesday, Alex will be in the Big Apple to promote his video game.  He’ll be arriving by zamboni.  Yes, I know, he can’t drive.  It is for this reason that my mother suggested I blow off school and we drive on down, because apparently even she would drive seven hours and then turn right back around if it meant seeing Alex driving an ice-resurfacer down the streets of New York.  Alas, I have two tests on Wednesday and I’m babysitting that night, so I shall be unable to go see him.  Blast.

The hockey game I want to go to in DC is the Inaugural Club Scarlet Night.  Methinks that would be an excellent game to be at.

I’m not liking the Sabres’ chances this year.

Let’s do some fun videos.

Zachity Zach!! Oh, how I have missed thee.  And did you get a haircut?  (As I was writing this post, I realized that I don’t have a Zach Bogosian tag.  What the HELL is wrong with me??)

Okay, which part of this video is the best part?  David showing how to play safely by showing up in flipflops?  David discussing his career shootout stats against Slapshot?  I can’t decide.  But oh, how I love David.  You’re going to be so badass this year.

Hands off, ladies. He’s spoken for.  (It took me a really long time to get that link to work because the video was in Russian.  Lots of guessing and random clicking involved.)

And finally, this one:

(This was the only video I could actually embed.)

Ha.  Hahaha.  Oh, Cabbie.  You know how to make me LOL.  You really do.

Ryan, thanks for being the first to just come out and admit that yes, you’ve done yoga.  There’s no shame in it.  Yoga is so great, and you feel so happy and peaceful after.  Really.  I thought I was going to skip yesterday when I finished.

Joe:  “I’ve gotta admit, I’ve gone once or twice.”  Joe, just say that you go weekly and that you can’t imagine life without it.  We see right through you trying to be all coy.  It’s really cute, but we know the truth.

“Are your pores just leaking Grey Goose?” = Best line in the video.

(Author’s note:  Trust me, you sweat it out in hot yoga.  Like, it pours off you.  But I haven’t gotten lightheaded yet.)

Don’t fight it, Joe.  We know you were looking.

Jonny, you are SUCH a typical 21 year-old.  “I had to!”

Joe Thornton seriously cracks me up.

So that’s about it.  I realize that this post had absolutely no pattern or reasoning behind it.  But that’s okay.
