Joy: WOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO OH MY HOCKEY GODS NICKLAS I DIDN’T THINK YOU COULD GET BETTER BUT YOU DID!!

Mike Green is even worse than last year. Yeah, I WENT THERE.

I’m so glad they (mostly) woke up. I was worried.

Sorrow: Deat great and powerful hockey gods, I will do whatever (WHATEVER) you want, just please, please, please, by some miracle, allow Thomas to be okay. We need him. The Sabres need him. The city of Buffalo needs him.

They sure don’t call ’em the Laffs for nothing!!

This game was highly entertaining.  TYLER scored two goals, the Sabres collectively were very good on the power play, and their penalty kill was spectacular they didn’t kick around the short bus kids too terribly much.  Seriously, though, at one point I just sat there and laughed while the Sabres were on the penalty kill.  God bless those Leafs.  They sure do try.

I don’t think the Sabres are ever going to lose again, and I certainly don’t think they’ll ever lose to the Leafs.

That Phil Kessel has been, uh, pretty darn good lately!

Brian Burke said “lovely” on the radio yesterday.  I was not aware that that word is in his vocabulary.

Dude, Kevin just reminded me that the Leafs traded away Tuukka Rask.  AHAHHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAH IT JUST GETS FUNNIER!

If Tyler Myers does not win the Calder Trophy, I will be even angrier than I will be if Alex does not win the Maurice Richard Trophy.  And trust me, guys, that is so angry no one will want to be in a ten-mile radius of me.

Last night the Caps stuck it to the Senators, wahoo!  Nicki got two (WHERE is his EXTENSION?) and Alex finally got one.  Yay, happy, joy, smiles.  Semyon Varlamov will never play hockey ever again, however.  Poor Varlaay.

Apparently my mom almost got into a fight with a drunk Leafs fan at the game.  That would have made my life, because my mother is not exactly the type of person who gets into fights at hockey games.

Tyler, you’re just the cutest.  But I’m pretty sure you were never “peewee.”

I like how everyone was legitimately concerned that the Leafs would tie it up at the end.  Guys, two things:

1.)  I realize the Leafs were “putting on the pressure” and the Sabres couldn’t even get the puck, but they’re the Leafs.  They are the LEAFS.

2.)  We had Ryan Miller in net, playing against the Leafs.  Ryan does not choke against the Leafs.

Ryan Miller just said “take the punch like a man.”  There is a reason I love this man.  Although there are a few signs that he actually might be a psychopath after all…

All in all, the Sabres have won six straight and they’ve been all sorts of games.  Come from behind, 1-0, lots of goals, “cutting it close at the end.”  I love every single one of them so very much.  I think they might actually possibly be good at hockey.  It’s a really cool feeling.

As Was Expected.

I’m not that upset about the Sabres game since I went into it anticipating a loss.  If anything, I’m glad they at least managed a point.  It was almost funny seeing how long it took for their first shot on goal.  The Sabres simply cannot play a good game against the Senators, and that’s that.  Not really anything else to say.

Derek Roy hasn’t done much of anything this year, but I still hope his injury isn’t too serious.  Although it does open up a spot in the lineup if Patty K really is ready to come back.

This team would be so frighteningly bad without Ryan Miller.

The worst part about last night is that my jersey is now 0-1 and got pulled halfway through the second period.  Although taking it off looked like it might pay off for a while; right after the Sabres scored their two goals.

We need someone who can score in the shootout.

We need a reliable scorer.

The Caps, on the other hand, won a huge statement game against the Devils.  This is the second game in a row they put up four or five goals on an elite goaltender and they didn’t even choke like they usually do when they’re playing New Jersey.  Alex had another three-point night so now he’s only four back of the lead league for points.  He’s ridiculous.  Lars Nicklas had himself a three point night as well, giving him his 200th point and 202 points in 202 games.  That’s…crazy.  I don’t understand why he hasn’t been re-signed yet and Semin has.

What a nice segway for me to use into Semin’s contract.  Um, what?!?  One year?  $6 million?  I don’t get it.  GMGM says it’s what the player preferred and gave him more flexibility.  I still don’t get it.  Players like him don’t sign one year deals.  Moreover, how can he sign a deal for $6 million?  Can they afford that?  Where’s the room to keep Nicki?  If there’s one player who needs to stay it’s him.  He’s just as important to this team as Alex.  Sasha is a great player when he wants to be, but I never saw him as indispensable.  Is George just trying to get him a contract so that he can trade him after the season and not have to worry about that?  They could get a pretty decent return for him, especially if he’s already got a contract.  I’m sure there are plenty of teams who would want him.  I’m just perplexed by the whole situation.  And a little bit angry.  Neuvirth has been really solid the past few games so I’m sure they could trade Theo if they wanted, which would open up more cap room, but there’s still another contract to be signed.  And isn’t it contract year for Flash as well?

Hmm.  It’s just all a little odd.  We shall have to wait and see how it all plays out.

Tonight the Sabres are playing the team of Sir Christopher’s hometown, and hopefully he’ll be able to play.  I’m not sure who Lindy benches to make room for him.  I know he’s the captain, but I’d almost say Rivet after the way he played the past few days…but he is the captain.

Team Sweden announced their roster.  I hope Henrik Zetterberg is back in time to play for them.  They always put together a good team and this looks like another one.  I am a little surprised Henrik Tallinder made the team, but I guess now that his rape case is all cleared up he’s a valuable asset.

Yeah, I Know.

December 17, 2009 at 5:06 pm | Posted in Buffalo Sabres, Jarkko Ruutu, Lindy Ruff, Losing Sucks, Ottawa Senators, Patrick Kaleta, That was absolutely terrible., What Is Up With All These Injuries? | Leave a comment

I knew the Sabres would lose last night, but getting SHUT OUT by Ottawa? Really? That was bad on so many levels I don’t even want to talk about it. When Brian Elliot has a 6-0 record against your team, that’s pretty gross.

Apparently a bunch of the guys had food poisoning. That definitely sucks. Sorry, boys. It’s just further proof that Ottawa wants to do you in.

I am beyond disgusted that Ruutu isn’t being suspended. I had to rewind the hit to show my family when they got home and…it was even worse than when it actually happened. That wasn’t even a guy throwing a check and ending up getting him from behind. That was Ruutu coming out of nowhere and blatantly using his elbow to nail a guy in the head. There is absolutely no need for that in the NHL.

I’m really not too worried about the game against Toronto, but things could get interesting on Saturday. I know how well Lala played against Chicago, but putting him in against Pittsburgh seems awful bold of Lindy. I guess when you’re in his good graces, you’re in his good graces.

Things That Are Good And Things That Are Bad.

Things that are good:

  • Ryan Miller got a shutout!  And not just a Ryan Miller Shutout, but a real one.  Oh, Ryan.  Your shutouts make me so happy.  I may be freaked out about this spring when you’re so tired you can’t even get your skates on, but I have to admit that I’m completely in love with your badass play right now.
  • Timmy K scoring!  And Jochen scoring!  And Henrik scoring!  Look at all that scoring love right there!
  • Beating the Leafs.  Hahahahaha.
  • Lars getting a three point night.  Larsiepoo, I love you.
  • Jose playing a solid game after having a lot of time off.  Jose, I sincerely hope that you’ve been able to work through your personal issues.  And I’m glad you’re playing well.
  • The Thrashers winning.  I love them.

Things that are bad:

  • OH MY GOD ALEXANDER MOTHER EFFIN’ OVECHKIN WHY DO YOU INSIST ON HURTING ME LIKE THIS???  KNEE-ON-KNEE?  REALLY?  THAT WAS A DIRTY PLAY.  THERE, I SAID IT.  IT WAS DIRTY AND I’M MAD AT YOU AND IF YOUR ACL IS TORN I’LL NEVER TALK TO YOU EVER AGAIN I WILL BE VERY SAD.  YOU ARE SUPPOSED TO BE IN BUFFALO IN A WEEK AND A HALF, MISTER.  I LET IT SLIDE ONCE LAST YEAR BECAUSE YOUR GRANDFATHER WAS SICK AND I LET IT SLIDE IN THE PRESEASON BECAUSE IT WAS THE PRESEASON, BUT ENOUGH IS ENOUGH.  I WILL NOT TOLERATE THIS EVASIVE BEHAVIOR ANYMORE.
  • Now that I’ve worn out my caps lock, let’s continue in a rational manner.  Oh my good golly gosh, that was awful.  I’ve never seen him in so much pain before ever.  This is so bad.  The Capitals are in deep shit without him.  Team Russia needs him.  I want to see him play live.  Lars needs him.  I can’t believe he would do something so dirty.  Stupid, stupid Alexander.

I’m going to go hang out with Little Ryan, because he isn’t pissing me off right now.  Looks like it’ll be time to get the bobblehead bandaids back out again.

Old Time Hockey!!

First I was happy when the Sabres scored the first goal.  Then I was concerned when the Flyers scored two quick ones (Dear Sabres, Work on actually playing for twenty full minutes, not nineteen and a half.  With Love, Frostee).  Then I was cautiously optimistic when they came back, and then I was happy again when they won 4-2.  When you start and end happy, consider it a good game.

Score aside, that was one big chippy chipfest.  Wow.  So much fighting and hitting and players writhing on the ice in pain and me having mini panic attacks.  All in all, I think the Sabres alone ended up with 13 3 casualties?  Patty getting kicked out, Goosie hurting one leg and Craigory hurting two?  Then there was Tyler Myers, but thank the merciful and great hockey gods, he came back.

Both Paul and Craig’s injuries looked serious.  The Sabres will miss having their captain around, but Paul Gaustad has been one of the best players for the team aside from Ryan Miller.  They’re going to miss him a lot.

Mayhaps we can call up Tyler Ennis?  If he’s not too busy with other things?

Tim Connolly had a spectacular night afternoon.  Good on ya for finally doing something, Timothy.

Mike Richards is the slimiest of all the slimeballs in the land, and I don’t like him.  He’s so dirty, and he’ll always get away with it because he’s Mike Richards (cue Pierre McGuire).  I wouldn’t be at all surprised if Patty got suspended for his hit, but no one’s going to do anything about Richards.

Ray Emery is not a very good goalie.  I don’t know why everyone kept thinking he’s the reason the team could actually make a deep run this season.

Killing off all the power players against the best power play in the league was pretty spiffy, boys.  Good work.

Stupid Scott Hartnell felt the need to pick on Timmy K, aka someone half his size.  Keep it classy, Scott.

I don’t like Philadelphia.  This win was very satisfying.

It was also an important win to get, because I’m already nervous about tomorrow night and to go into a game against Carolina with a five game losing streak is a recipe for disaster.

Sabres, please don’t completely embarrass yourselves at home against the Hurricanes.  That would be tragic.

Birthday Wishes And Other Things Of Varying Importance. (Now With An Uber-Cute Update)

Happy birthday, darling Lars!!  Oh, the time passes so quickly.  You’re growing up to be a big boy.  *sniffles*

In honor of you, I wore an American Eagle sweater today.  I know how much you love them:

He’s such an adorable little porky leather head.

(An aside:  If I walked into an American Eagle and he was just standing there, perusing the racks on the guys side of the store, I would most likely either drop dead where I was standing or shriek.)

Thanks to TSN, we can now see what Alex got Lars for his birthday.  “Right now my eyes are sore a little, but it’s okay.”

I love them.  Best part is when they show Alex and you can see Flash sticking his face in to see if the mission was successful.

In other news…

Not much is happening with the Sabres, for a change.  Lindy’s shuffling lines, Mike Grier might be back soon, Patches played at forward in practice.  Awe.  Some.

I’m inordinately excited for the game Wednesday night.  I love when my two teams play each other.  However, a word of caution for the Sabres:  Last year the day before Thanksgiving Alex got a hatter.  Just sayin’.  Watch out, boys.

I had some really funny story I was going to tell and then I COMPLETELY forgot about it.  Rats.  It must not have been that funny.

Is Drew going to be back Wednesday night?  Can we call up Tyler Ennis if he’s not?  I always liked that boy.

During the Sabres game Wednesday night, my mom and I spent a good twenty minutes discussing Timmy K’s hair.  We decided we like it.

The Flames Were In Town Tonight.

I was out to dinner and consequently missed the first period.  I hear it was wonderful.  It certainly sounds as though it was.  They finally scored on the power play?  Wooooo!!  The second period was fast, but I was not at all pleased with the lack of shots and the plethora of penalties taken by the Sabres.  Then Sir Christopher had to stand up for Ryan, as he’s a chivalrous soul and protecting his goaltender is one of his money duties.  Then the Flames tried to beat up Clarkey, then Goosie beat up Phaneuf.  I liked the last one a lot.  I don’t like Phaneuf, and I do like Goose, so I enjoy seeing the latter punch the first.  Serves you right, Dion.

It was really great getting to see Jarome Iginla.  He’s an incredibly talented player and we don’t ever get to see him because he’s aaaaallll the way on the west coast.

The Sabres took sixteen too many penalties tonight.  Good heavens, they looked like last year’s box-loving Caps.

I thought RJ was going to stroke out in the last thirty second of overtime.  Rick, you are not as young as you used to be.  Don’t overexert yourself.

The game ended up in the shootout, and, miracle of miracles, the Sabres pulled out the win.  Oooh!! Aaah!!  Weee!!  Good job, Sabres.  You ended up with a grand total of six shots on goal (going from the two periods I saw), but you managed the win.  Excellent, excellent.  I know this is asking far too much of you, but a win tomorrow night would be superb.  Philly is a scary, intimidating team, but I have complete faith in you.  Put your mind to it, boys, and you can do it.  All in all, though, tonight you played a highly entertaining game.  Much better than Wednesday night.  Thank you.

There’s no way Lala starts tomorrow night.

The Caps played the Wild.  Perrault continued to be badass.  Mike Knuble broke his finger and is out 3-4 weeks and I am very sad.  I love Mike Knuble.  Mike Knuble is a good leader and he’s good at killing penalties and he liked my sign.  Poor Mike Knuble.  Varly is slowly working his way back into my good graces.  The Caps have issues to work out, but they’ve looked pretty darn good over the past few games (aside from giving up 3 quick ones to the Islanders and then borderline choking in the final minute against them and taking eleven rounds of the shootout to beat them).  I like it.

The Hurricanes lost their 14th straight game.  It used to be really funny when everyone was wondering if they’d make it to ten.  Now it’s just sad.  Should we send in aid?  Is there something we can do to put them out of their misery?

The Thrashers beat the Kings 7-0.  This is totes awesome.  Thrashers, you rock.  I love you.  Ilya, Evander, AND Zachity Zach all scored.  That’s what we call an awesome game.  I should have watched it.  I’ve never tried watching three games at once before.  I mis try this some time.  Atlanta is certainly worthy.

I got tapped last minute for  babysitting gig tomorrow night.  I’ll be able to watch the Sabres after the kiddies go to bed and they get CBC, but I will be unable to see the Capitals.  This pretty much guarantees that Alex will come back and score a hat trick.  Awesome.

I Am Tired And I Am Cranky.

The Sabres lost 5-2 to the Flyers.  This is pukey and disgusting and gross and yucky and I don’t ever want to talk about it ever again.  End of story, goodbye.

Well, no.  I’m just tired and by extension, I’m not in the best of moods.  I wanted the Sabres to compete tonight and play hard and at least make it a close one.  Yes, Tyler scored to make it 4-2, but I didn’t see that goal and they still ended up losing.  Not cool, Buffalo.  Not.  Cool.

After the second period I kind of gave up on them and flipped over to the Capitals game.  Whatever.  At least they won.

Ryan Miller has been really good so far this season, but if he’s in net tomorrow night I will flip shit.  Lindy, STOP PLAYING HIM.  OMG HE’S GOING TO BREAK.

Jose has been really good too.  This makes me happy, but this confuses me.  Jose, you’re supposed to suck and make me want to hurt people.  What is this?

I’m glad Derek finally started scoring.  Thank you, D.  I appreciate it.

Tim Kennedy is just good at life.  He and Mike Grier are so awesome together.

I wonder how many posts I’m going to write this year that involve the sentence “Timmy K and Mike Grier rock my socks when they play together on a line.”

I’m a bit perplexed by the Flyers.  First, they’re so good and they’re amazing and they could ever win the Stanley Cup!  Then they’re a one-line team.  They certainly have a few injuries, but I don’t like using that as an excuse.  It seems like such a copout.  Half the players are going to be injured by the time you get to the Cup finals; you need to suck it up and be able to get past injuries during the regular season.

I like Mo the Second.

The Capitals are all breaking one by one.  If something happens to Lars I don’t know what I’ll do with myself.

This post is very rambly.  I apologize.  I’m watching last night’s “Project Runway” and I’m really worried that Christopher is going to make it to Fashion Week.

Pommer’s baby’s name is Jayden John. The only way this could be cuter is if little Jayden popped out wearing a beanie with a propeller on the top holding a lollipop.

The Sabres better kick some Islander butt tomorrow night, because while I saw nothing of the last time the two teams played each other, it sounds like it wasn’t pretty.

Usually I don’t mind posting on my phone, but tonight the lack of bullets bothers me. Stupid computer hogs in my family.

It sounds as though the Sabres are recovering from their bout with the swine. That’s always a good thing.

Alex is still hurt and I am still greatly distressed about this. Were they serious when they said two weeks? TWO WEEKS??! Holy hockey gods, that is INSANELY LONG.

His interview from today warmed my heart.

Here’s Mini Alex. He also suffered an upper body injury. (Um, the picture is at the bottom of the post. Sorry. That would be my phone’s fault.)

I’m scared for the Caps to play the Devils tomorrow. It’s going to be a bloodbath.

I’m also scared that Saturday night was the start of a downward spiral. When did the Sabres fall apart last year? Was it because of the Islanders??
