THE SABRES WON! THEY’RE STILL IN IT!!! I LOVE TYLER ENNIS!!!!!
Those freaking Caps make me so mad sometimes.
Raise your hand if you think Brooks Laich is a really important part of the team.
Yeah, I thought so.
P.S. I realize that technically it’s “bad” that Vanek and Connolly are out, but Ennis and Gerbe have been playing so well that it might be one of those delightful blessings in disguise. Likewise, I would completely support the current idea going around that Lindy should bench Stafford when one of the injured guys gets back. And that’s only partly because halfway through the second period Saturday night, I turned to my dad and asked him if Drew had been shot a few months ago and the Sabres just never told us. Where is he??
Er, um, the Sabres won. I just got a little confused with all the callups.
I missed some of the game, but isn’t it kind of frightening that a guy can win the Vezina one year and look like TimTom did last night the next? Are we sure we want to risk that with Ryan?
(Let me answer that for you: yes, it’s a chance I’m willing to take.)
I’ve been paying more attention to the lower seeds and while I NEVER underestimate an opponent, the Bruins wouldn’t be the worst first-round matchup for the Caps.
I love Ennis the Menace a bunch. For reals. He’s just a gem.
I may or may not be making an incredibly embarrassing sign for the game on Thursday. It sort of depends on if I have time to make it. Stay tuned.
I didn’t make it through last night’s game. I skipped all of the third except for the last two minutes because I really didn’t feel like watching the Sabres lose to the Senators again. The way the Sabres’ luck goes, they’ll end up playing Ottawa at some point. They’ll get swept. It’ll be ugly. Water will still be wet.
Tonight, however, was just a ton of fun. I live for games like this. Yeah, hard-fought, close games are exciting, but there’s nothing more relaxing for me than watching the Sabres beat the crap out of another team. Derek Roy even got himself a hat trick! That was just so cute. I thought Tyler Ennis played pretty well too. I really liked him when he got called up last time too. Good kid. Neither of the Tampa Bay goalies were very good but hey, I’m not complaining.
And Patty Lala got his 200th career win! I honestly thought he would retire with 199 wins. He even looked pretty good aside from the one goal he gave up. That was kind of ugly.
And perhaps the biggest deal about tonight is that the Buffalo Sabres are going to the PLAYOFFS. I still think they’ll get swept in the first round, but at least they’ll be going. I haven’t had this Sabres-related excitement in several years. It’ll be fun. I can’t wait.
Although if any team could find a way to choke out of the playoffs after already clinching a spot, it would be this team right here.
First I was happy when the Sabres scored the first goal. Then I was concerned when the Flyers scored two quick ones (Dear Sabres, Work on actually playing for twenty full minutes, not nineteen and a half. With Love, Frostee). Then I was cautiously optimistic when they came back, and then I was happy again when they won 4-2. When you start and end happy, consider it a good game.
Score aside, that was one big chippy chipfest. Wow. So much fighting and hitting and players writhing on the ice in pain and me having mini panic attacks. All in all, I think the Sabres alone ended up with 13 3 casualties? Patty getting kicked out, Goosie hurting one leg and Craigory hurting two? Then there was Tyler Myers, but thank the merciful and great hockey gods, he came back.
Both Paul and Craig’s injuries looked serious. The Sabres will miss having their captain around, but Paul Gaustad has been one of the best players for the team aside from Ryan Miller. They’re going to miss him a lot.
Mayhaps we can call up Tyler Ennis? If he’s not too busy with other things?
Tim Connolly had a spectacular night afternoon. Good on ya for finally doing something, Timothy.
Mike Richards is the slimiest of all the slimeballs in the land, and I don’t like him. He’s so dirty, and he’ll always get away with it because he’s Mike Richards (cue Pierre McGuire). I wouldn’t be at all surprised if Patty got suspended for his hit, but no one’s going to do anything about Richards.
Ray Emery is not a very good goalie. I don’t know why everyone kept thinking he’s the reason the team could actually make a deep run this season.
Killing off all the power players against the best power play in the league was pretty spiffy, boys. Good work.
Stupid Scott Hartnell felt the need to pick on Timmy K, aka someone half his size. Keep it classy, Scott.
I don’t like Philadelphia. This win was very satisfying.
It was also an important win to get, because I’m already nervous about tomorrow night and to go into a game against Carolina with a five game losing streak is a recipe for disaster.
Sabres, please don’t completely embarrass yourselves at home against the Hurricanes. That would be tragic.
Happy birthday, darling Lars!! Oh, the time passes so quickly. You’re growing up to be a big boy. *sniffles*
In honor of you, I wore an American Eagle sweater today. I know how much you love them:
(An aside: If I walked into an American Eagle and he was just standing there, perusing the racks on the guys side of the store, I would most likely either drop dead where I was standing or shriek.)
Thanks to TSN, we can now see what Alex got Lars for his birthday. “Right now my eyes are sore a little, but it’s okay.”
I love them. Best part is when they show Alex and you can see Flash sticking his face in to see if the mission was successful.
In other news…
Not much is happening with the Sabres, for a change. Lindy’s shuffling lines, Mike Grier might be back soon, Patches played at forward in practice. Awe. Some.
I’m inordinately excited for the game Wednesday night. I love when my two teams play each other. However, a word of caution for the Sabres: Last year the day before Thanksgiving Alex got a hatter. Just sayin’. Watch out, boys.
I had some really funny story I was going to tell and then I COMPLETELY forgot about it. Rats. It must not have been that funny.
Is Drew going to be back Wednesday night? Can we call up Tyler Ennis if he’s not? I always liked that boy.
During the Sabres game Wednesday night, my mom and I spent a good twenty minutes discussing Timmy K’s hair. We decided we like it.
The Sabres played the second night of a back-to-back tonight. It was against a good team. Ryan was in net again. Their leading goal-scorer (before the game) (who only has five goals, shudder) was out injured. Sounds like the recipe for an ugly loss, right?
Not for these boys!!
After the disaster that was last weekend, the Sabres managed two good wins against two really good teams. Ryan Miller saved their arses, but they still won. Vanek even scored tonight! I had assumed he had forgotten how to do that, although he supposedly has six goals now?
Holding the lead against a good team like the Flyers is huge. They were able to do that for a whole period and didn’t let the Flyers get the momentum when they did score.
Flyers fans are douches.
Beating Ray Emery always makes me feel all warm and fuzzy.
Tyler Ennis got his first NHL goal!! Go Tyler!! I was a little surprised when they called him up, but he was great. It’s nice to know we have a whole bunch of players we can rely on for the future. But his being good is not helping our large amount of forwards.
Max is doing wonderfully down in Atlanta. He even got two goals last night, and has six on the season. Oh, Max. We all knew you would explode once you left town. At least you’re playing for a team I like.
It sounds like the Caps game was a mess. Thank the merciful heavens that I didn’t see it. Even though they would have won if I had been home to watch it.
Oh, Sabres. You’re making me like you again. It’s so much fun.
