Punch line. Right now. Everyone get in.
Mike Green, you first.
As far as sporting events go, tonight was one of the worst nights of my life. It ranks right up there with my birthday this year and that medal game a few days after.
I feel empty.
That Kovalchuk trade really worked out for the Devils, huh?
Yes, the Caps won 6-3 (and let me tell you something, Alexander Ovechkin looked BEYOND RIDICULOUS in his postgame interview with his ripped off sleeves and his hardhat. Me: “He looks like a gay construction worker.” Mom: “You’re completely right.” [ed. note: I mean this in a really affectionate way, trust me]). That was fun and I’m looking forward to Friday night.
But the Sabres lost in the second overtime because Drew Stafford is a worthless pile of poo and now they’re down 3-1 and there’s no way they’re gonna come back from that and I’m not even going to be able to see the game Friday so I won’t see them again until October and I’m sad and Ryan Miller deserves so much better and at this point he should probably just go on a killing spree or something because it’s not like his teammates care about him.
AND Colorado lost last night. That’s just the sour icing on the overcooked, dried-out cake.
I have come to the conclusion that the Sabres are a bad team with a good goalie, but by the time I turned on the game last night Ryan had already been pulled. That’s awesome guys. Really really awesome. At this point it’s almost a lock that they’ll make the playoffs, but it’s nice to know that they want to go into the postseason on a role.
Don’t tell anyone, but the Caps are really impressive when Alex is out of the lineup. Those kids, they just keep on plugging along. Brooks Laich is awesome.
USA! USA! USA!! USA!!!
I knew it would happen but I was forced to go to the game anyway. The Sabres were not very good. The second period was fun, but that was it. I felt like I was watching a bad team, not a (for the time being) division-leading team. Gross.
Tyler, however, continued to be FABULOUS. PLEASE BE OKAY.
Thomas Vanek sucks.
The guy sitting behind the Bruins bench acting like a chicken every time Chara skated by was actually hilarious.
Thank goodness we’re almost at the Olympic break.
This one kid I go to school with is fond of saying things are out of control. “So-and-so is out of control,” “This teacher is out of control,” “This class is out of control,” “This homework is out of control,” etc. I would now like to borrow his expression:
The Sabres are out of control.
I didn’t even watch the game last night, but I know it’s true. I saw the final score text. What is WRONG with them? Have they all been replaced by ALIENS?
If I was willing to even talk to the Sabres right now I’d say they owe the city of Buffalo. But I get the feeling that even that is asking too much of them.
Getting swept by Ottawa in the first round after they lose the division to them is going to hurt a lot this spring.
The Sabres played the Bruins tonight. They needed to rebound after a poor showing against the Flyers. They needed to show they can win in front of their backup. They needed to show they can play good teams and not just bad ones. (Although I don’t know if I’d necessarily call the Bruins a “legitimate contender” so far this season.) They needed two points taken in convincing fashion.
Too bad no one told them that.
This game was not fun. The Bruins were last in the league on the power play and Buffalo let them score more than once with the man advantage. Jhonas didn’t get a win. They kept showing Pie and it made me very sad. The Sabres let an “offensively challenged” team score four. It was a mess all around tonight and I’m starting to worry that this is where it all starts to go downhill.
Toronto beat Detroit 5-1. I don’t even know what to say to that. I’m speechless.
The Caps beat the Panthers 7-4. Smiley face! The Caps were winning then they were tied then they were losing then they were winning then they were tied then they won. The Lars-Flash-Mikey line was intense. They were scoring and assisting and being general badasses. Supposedly 13 Caps had points tonight. That’s spectacular, especially considering that Alex is still, alas, wounded. That’s not spectacular is that Semin didn’t have any. You suck, Sasha. I don’t like you.
Michael and Alexander were unable to play tonight, however, we were provided our fix of them thanks to Michael’s Twitter:
They’re too cute.
Michael has his stupid skinny tie on again.
I always liked that pink shirt of Alex’s.
He’s looking a little chunky.
I miss him.
We’ve got a few days off until the Sabres play again, and I’m really hoping they figure things out and decide who they want to be and all that sappy garbage. I don’t want them to fall apart. I like when they’re good. It’s more exciting.
