Aww, Look At Them!

This game wasn’t too exciting, but I think a 1-0 win over those yucky Canadiens is just what the doctor ordered. A shutout will go a long way in helping to fix Ryan’s GAA and save percentage, and it was nice to see the Sabres score first for once.

Dear Timmy K,

No worries about those penalties, man. My mom still has a crush on you.

With Love,

Frostee

If you guys didn’t see Vanek ROB the Hab formerly known as the Caveman, look it up. Seriously. You won’t be disappointed.

I don’t want to talk about the Caps because they are now a legit pile of crap and they will never win again. And it’s all Bruce’s fault. (Is it really true that he never connected with Chris? Because if that’s the case I will never forgive him ever again.)

Just Some Things

  • The new issue of Men’s Journal has a lovely photo spread of one of my preferred stupid, suspended Russians.  I spent about thirty seconds looked high and low across the internet but couldn’t find the pictures already on there and since my camera is in need of new batteries and the scanner has been broken for three years, you’ll just have to trust me that aside from the model who probably had intercourse with him, the pictures are pretty darn hot.
  • I saw a Myers third jersey today in school.  It made me warm and fuzzy.
  • NHL.com and I have been in a battle of epic proportions since May:  I want a Lars t-shirt and they don’t want me to get one.  I decided this in May when Larsie was tearing it up in the playoffs and being a BAMF and I was so in love with the Capitals and the first two games of the second round and everything was sunshine and daisies.  I think the video in this post also had a lot to do with that decision.  I made my way over to the online NHL Store only to discover that the only size they carried was an adult XXL.  There is no way a shirt in this size would ever, possibly fit me, so I decided to wait.  I checked periodically throughout the summer but it wasn’t until early October that they finally appeared to restock and appeared to be carrying my size.  I hurried to place my order and I was reviewing the final order before submitting it, I discovered that the item I ordered was backordered and it would ship in 2-4 weeks.  “I’ve been waiting since May,” I said to myself, “So I have no problem waiting a few extra weeks.  I won’t let them win.”  You can therefore imagine my surprise when, a week later, I received an email saying that my order had been further delayed and I would receive notification when it shipped.  Today I got an email saying the order was cancelled.  As I was NOT going to let them win, I hurriedly placed a call to the number at the bottom of the email.  I have now re-placed my order.  I got 20% off and it will ship in 2-4 weeks, they promise.  It’s not even like I want a Lars shirt SO BADLY that I simply HAVE TO HAVE IT, but just forgetting I ever wanted one is like letting the terrorists win.  So, NHL.com, you may have won this round, but I assure you that I will be victorious in the end.
  • I’m so sad that Spacek, formerly known as the beloved Caveman, is coming back to Buffalo.
  • I’m starting to get really pissed at Lindy.  Yo, dude, I get that we’re the only team that has yet to win a game with a backup in net, but seriously, Ryan is going to FALL APART.
  • Does anyone know if Matt Bradley is a papa yet?
  • I do not understand how Chicago is going to fit Toews, Kane, and Keith under the cap along with the Soupster, Hossa, and Huet.  It doesn’t make sense.  Isn’t that like 90% of their payroll right there?  There isn’t enough room!
  • I’m glad tomorrow’s Friday.

TWO Comebacks!!

November 28, 2009 at 10:17 pm | Posted in Alex Ovechkin, Atlanta Thrashers, Buffalo Sabres, Carolina Hurricanes, Happy!!, Jaroslav Spacek, Lars Nicklas Backstrom, Mike Green, Mike Grier, Montreal Canadiens, Patrick Lalime, Philadelphia Flyers, Players, Ryan Miller, Thomas Vanek, Tyler Myers, Washington Capitals, Winning Is Totally Awesome | Leave a comment

The Sabres spent much of their game down 1-0 to the Hurricanes.  The Caps scored two goals and then gave up three in a row to the Canadiens.  Thankfully, both of my teams ended up winning.

The Sabres looked like a pile of poop for the first two periods.  The game was boring and they couldn’t get anything going and Tyler Myers was trying to kill me.  Ryan Miller appeared to be the only player on the team who seemed to care about the collective sanity of Buffalo, and it’s a good thing that he does.  He needs to be in the Vezina talks to this point of the season.  I don’t understand how he couldn’t be.  He’s been the best player on the team, end of story.  Yes, I did think Lalime should have played tonight, but Miller has been beyond fantastic.  RJ was right; we are not worthy.

In the fifth period the Sabres finally figured things out and remembered that they’re playing the Hurricanes on the road, a place they have not yet won a game.  Losing at home to the Hurricanes, especially via shutout, is about as embarrassing as it gets.  You might as well go home after that.  Vanek finally got around to scoring a goal, and it’s always lovely to see Mike Grier contributing.  Yo, the Sabres even scored on the POWER PLAY.  That doesn’t happen very often.

The Caps game went like this:  Alexander and Eric score, Canadiens score (let’s not talk about the traitor formally known as the Caveman), Caps score on the power play with eleven seconds left, Michael DOESN’T completely screw things up in overtime, Lars is a hero in the shootout, Caps win.

1.)  I got pretty scared when Michael was allowed near the puck in overtime.  I’m very proud of him for not killing anyone or gift-wrapping any goals.

2.)  Alex looked much more like himself tonight – aside from that one part where he tripped over himself six times in a row – which is reassuring.  I think he’s finally getting back to his pre-injury state.

3.)  Lars has been a bit off this month.  He looked awesome Wednesday night, and a shootout winner might not boost up his point totals or anything, but I think our dear little Swede has gotten his game back.  Yay!!

P.S.  The Thrashers beat the Flyers 1-0.  I would just like to remind everyone that I loved them even back when they sucked.

Last night the Caveman faced the Sabres, and even though Clarkey and Nathan both scored, it was the Caveman’s team that won in the end.

That makes me sad.

Sigh

I can’t stop feeling really, really bummed about Spacek leaving.  Yesterday I managed to distract myself by thinking about how awesome Mike Knuble’s going to be on the top line with Alexander and Lars (and don’t worry, I’m going to make sure Lars knows that Knuble’s not a stranger and that he can pass to him) until I went into my room and saw that stupid Spacek mini puck I caved and bought back in April.  What am I supposed to do with a tiny puck with Jaroslav Spacek on the front?

Dear Darcy,

To make up for not keeping Spacek, I’d appreciate it if today you sign all the RFAs that we actually like and trade away Tallinder/Lydman/Hecht.  Thanks a bunch.

With Love,

Frostee

Free Agency Day!!! Part II

July 1, 2009 at 4:19 pm | Posted in Buffalo Sabres, Calgary Flames, Chicago Blackhawks, Contracts, Happy!!, Jaroslav Spacek, Marian Hossa, Mike Knuble, Montreal Canadiens, Players, Steve Montador, This Irks Me, Washington Capitals | Leave a comment

I realize that the first day of free agency is far from over, but I figured I might as well write a post.  It’s been quite a roller coaster of emotions for me today.  I’ll give you a little sample:

Happiness: Huzzah!!!  The Capitals signed Mike Knuble!!  Veteran experience!!  Not afraid to crash the net!!  Grit and toughness!!  Just what they need!!  A perfect fit!!

And, I might have seen him outside Chef’s back during the season, so clearly he and I share a bond.

Utter confusion: Um…Hossa to Chicago?  As in, Chicago? I totally did not see that one coming.  Not at all.  And, twelve years?  Um, Blackhawks, can you afford that?  Kaner and Toews are both due extensions next summer, and juuust in case you forgot, you have Brian Campbell, and he’s seriously overpaid.  And Huet isn’t exactly a cheap goalie.

Complete shock: Darcy Regier signed someone.  As in, a player.  It’s July 1, and Darcy signed someone.  I need to take a deep breath and process this.

Hello, Steve Montador.  Welcome to Buffalo.  We love our hockey here.  Don’t break our hearts.  Some people say you’re “tough.”  We have a lot of players here who, well, aren’t tough, so feel free to knock around the opposing team’s players if they give our goalie a high ankle sprain.

And, also, we’ve been hearing that you’re a bit like our beloved Timothy Connolly off the ice?  Fabulous.  That means we’re going to gossip about you.  Deal with it.

Aww, bless them: The Sedin twins sign identical deals in Vancouver; Jay Bouwmeester gets to play for Calgary.

And, Jay, you’re too cute.  Have fun playing for the Flames.

Intrigue: The Hawks have Huet as their starting goaltender this season?  This could get interesting.  Good luck in Edmonton, Khabby!!!

Despair: Why hasn’t Washington traded Theodore yet?  Why haven’t they announced that Nylander’s gone missing, but they won’t search for the body yet?  Why is Mike Komisarek a Sabre/Capital for life?!?!?!

Purely suicidal thoughts: Jaro….is a CANADIEN?!?!  As in, he’ll be PLAYING FOR MONTREAL NEXT SEASON?!?!

Wait.  $11.5 million over three years? That’s… a lot of money.

But still.  Sniffle.  I’ll miss you, Caveman.  Take care of yourself.  Make sure you get enough fresh meat.

Jaro’s Final Days?

June 28, 2009 at 12:01 pm | Posted in Buffalo Sabres, Jaroslav Spacek, This Irks Me, Washington Capitals | Leave a comment

According to Darcy, our beloved Caveman is looking to test the market this Wednesday.  This saddens me like you wouldn’t believe.  Jaro was our highest scoring defenseman all year and was the one defenseman I found myself consistently able to rely on.  Darcy, offering him a one-year deal and then just letting him walk away is NOT GONNA CUT IT.

I really, really don’t want him to leave, and if he does leave I refuse to believe that it’s all part of the plan to “take a step in the right direction.”  Losing Jaro would totally wipe out the fact that we didn’t draft a single player shorter than six feet.

The only way I could ever possibly even consider getting over this would be if he ended up in Washington.  The Caps are clearly interested in a defenseman, because they had been looking at Chris Pronger, and I could see him fitting in there.  He wouldn’t be the only European player and I’m sure the rest of the team would take good care of him.  Also, once I had forgiven him for leaving, I would be able to root for the team he was on without feeling guilty and I could keep a close eye on him.

But I would still probably cry.

P.S.  Marcus Foligno, please, you know and we know that if – or, hopefully, when – you score your first NHL goal you’ll do the jump.  And, um, you’re prettier than your brother.  Just sayin’.

On The Mend

June 23, 2009 at 1:01 pm | Posted in Jaroslav Spacek, Lars Nicklas Backstrom, Randomness, Tyler Myers | 5 Comments

I had every intention of writing a nice post about the Sabres and who sucked and who was a bright spot, but that was back on Sunday when I thought I’d be feeling better yesterday.  Today, however, I’m actually up and hydrating (I’ve been working on a 32 oz bottle of Vitamin Water.  Royzie would be so proud.) and eating so things are looking up.

Lots of good news from Darcy today in the form of his desire to re-sign Jaro and Jaro’s desire to stay in Buffalo.  We’ve heard that party line from a lot of players over the past few years, but I actually trust my little Caveman.  He wouldn’t lie.  Darcy also made is sound like Tyler Myers will be getting seeing some time up here.  Huzzah!!  Our adorable giant will be coming to play with us!!

Lars is on the overseas cover of NHL 10.  I don’t speak Swedish, but I’m sure the blurb underneath is about how fabulous and badassed he is.

I find myself getting really excited for Free Agency Day this year.  Last summer I had to babysit all morning and missed the start of it, but this year I’ll be able to waste an entire day hitting refresh and seeing what crazy deals people are making.  A lot of GMs in this league feel the need to make huge, outrageous deals.  Seeing them react to the pressure is almost fascinating.  It’s like Trade Deadline Day all over again!

Bucky Scared Me

June 21, 2009 at 3:54 pm | Posted in Jaroslav Spacek, Randomness | 2 Comments

I’m still sick, so starting off my day by reading Bucky’s thoughts on being GM for a day probably wasn’t the best idea.  I was quite surprised to see that I actually agreed with the majority of what he said.  The Sabres have a lot of dead weight that needs to be dropped and I’m a huge Komisarek fan so I was always in favor of bringing him in.  Getting Bouwmeester would, of course, be fantastic, but I just don’t see that actually working out.

Then I got to the part where he said Jaro simply wouldn’t fit under the salary cap, and I freaked out.

BUCKY, I NEED MY LITTLE CAVEMAN.  HE’S A RELIABLE DEFENSEMAN AND HE IS SO WORTH $3 MILLION.  PROBABLY EVEN A TAD BIT MORE.

So that’s all I have to say about that.  I am 100% in favor of keeping Jaroslav Spacek next season.

It was bad enough that I had to deal with that this morning.  Then the family took off for my brother’s baseball game abandoning me here.  This actually wouldn’t be too big a deal, except I look like hell.  And the doorbell rang, and it was my neighbor who may or may not be totally into me (and actually is kind of cute now that he had his growth spurt).  My friends have differing opinions on the matter.  Regardless, it wasn’t certainly wasn’t my finest hour, and I could tell from his facial expression he felt the same way.  Awesome.

I realize this means absolutely nothing to any of you.  Time to go find the ginger ale.

Just A Few Things

June 20, 2009 at 6:04 pm | Posted in Alex Ovechkin, Andrew Peters, Buffalo Sabres, Derek Roy, Jaroslav Spacek, Randomness, Sergei Fedorov, Sidney Crosby | 5 Comments

I’m really sick.  Last week my brother had a mild case of swine flu virus and he passed it on to me.  He assures me that after one day of feeling kind of crummy and another day of feeling like a piece of crap, I’ll be back to normal.  I can’t wait until tomorrow.  This complete lack of motivation/total exhaustion is annoying.  For example, it took me four hours to work up the strength and drive to drag myself out of bed and downstairs, and that was only because after 24 hours I was finally a little hungry and because my friend wanted me to send her a picture of Alex’s dye job.  But coming downstairs tired me out so I’m thinking I’ll have to rest a few more minutes until I dig up some crackers.

Since I feel as though I’ve neglected the Sabres over the past few, erm, months, I thought I’d watch a few Sabres-themed videos to lift my spirits.  I started with Odd Jobs.

In retrospect, I probably shouldn’t have watched this while I was sick because it made me laugh and then I started hacking/weezing again.  It was really sexy.

Then I watched this for the eight millionth time:

Don’t let his kind smile and love for children trick you, parents of Western New York!!  Sabretooth is a vicious, vicious animal!!

Then I remembered that the tenth anniversary of No Goal very recently passed.  As you probably know, I’m a high school student.  I was rather young when No Goal happened, so I didn’t exactly stay up to watch it.  I do remember how sad everyone was, and I do remember that as soon as I was a bit older, I realized that Buffalo was colossally screwed over.  I’m sorry I couldn’t commiserate with you, Fans of Buffalo.  If it had happened more recently, however, rest assured that I would have been appropriately enraged.

Then I went looking for a good picture of Alex for my friend.  I found this one.

88569525This picture makes me very sad.  That’s all I have to say about it.

sid with the cupThis picture, on the other hand, is actually really cute.  Oh, Sid.  You lead such an exciting, action-packed life.

So, Darcy, did ya sign Jaro to a ten year deal yet?

My head hurts and all this typing has me tired again.  I hate being sick.

Peace out, yo.
