The DC Adventure, Day 3.

April 3, 2010 at 4:54 pm | Posted in Buffalo Sabres, Chris Clark, Lars Nicklas Backstrom, Players, Randomness, Washington Capitals | Leave a comment

I’m in the car on the way home. I’m tired but I’ll make it back for most of the games and The Ten Commandments tonight, so no complaints. The Sabres have a chance to clinch the division tonight and I’m hoping they’ll get over the temper tantrum they appear to have thrown to rebel against me going to Washington and make things nice and official.

Don’t tell the Sabres, but I’m already thinking I might come back over my February break next year for a game. That was what I had originally wanted to do this year but the Olympic Break got in the way of those plans.

I had previously been excited about the Caps game tonight but dear Chris Clark is hurt so now it’s just another game. Woo. I’m just glad I got to see Lars Nicklas’s thirtieth goal. That was exciting.

I haven’t heard anything to the contrary but I’m assuming Miller is starting tonight. Once they finally do clinch I hope Lala will at least get one more game…let’s not take any chances, Lindy.

My cute story is coming, I just don’t feel like typing it out on my phone.

P.S. There were way too many Penguins shirts in Washington. I’m used to/can deal with all the Sabres support, but Penguins? That’s sick.

I Need This Olympic Break.

I think the Sabres and I need this Olympic break.  I’m pissed as hell at them and we need to regroup.  I’m not sure how much I’ll be able to watch them this week since I’m insanely ridiculously busy (last week before break, whoop whoop), but this might not be the worst thing.  I mean, they lost to Carolina last night.  The Carolina Hurricanes.  And Ryan Miller was terrible.  And he’s playing every game at the Olympics.  We’re screwed.

However, one glance at the schedule right after the Olympics proves that it’s not exactly going to get better, what with the Sabres playing Pittsburgh and Washington (I’ll be there!  I’ll be there!) back-to-back.  Yikes.

The Caps, however, continue to be SO AMAZING AND FUN AND EXCITING.  FREE CHICKEN WINGS FOR EVERYONE!!  I encourage all of you to take a gander at the league leaders stat page on NHL.com.  It is HIGHLY ENJOYABLE to do so.

Lars Nicklas and Sidney Crosby are tied for points.  Just throwing that out there.  CLEARLY Sidney is the better player, though.

My parents were at the Sabres game last night and I’ve never seen them come home from a game as pissed as they were last night.  It was a mess.  I need to stop fuming about it.

Tonight the Sabres travel to Columbus to take on my beloved Chris Clark.  I still feel a dull ache when I think of him despite how ridiculous Alex has been since he got himself the C.  I, however, will be missing the game as I will be attending a party.  Oh, Christopher.  Know that you and your classiness will be on my mind.

If I check my phone at 9:30 tonight and find that the Sabres lost to Columbus too, I might have to do something drastic.

Sad Times.

Last night the Capitals lost to the pukey Hurricanes 6-3.  Eric Staal had a FIVE POINT night.  Let that all sink in, kids.  6-3.  To the Hurricanes.

Bruce and Brooks and everyone else keeps going on and on about how finding out two hours before a game that two teammates/friends/the captain had been traded wasn’t the reason for their total disinterest in the game.  I know they’ve got to say things like that.  And part of that game was Theo sucking and Erskine sucking and then both of them sucking together.

But part of it was the trade.  You could tell.  The guys looked on the verge of tears in the postgame interviews.  I don’t understand why the trade had to be made RIGHT THEN.  If it had been in the works since September, it could have been done after the game or long enough before that the guys weren’t all in shock on the ice.

I just hope this game isn’t an indication of how things are going to go out in California.  That…would be bad.

At one point last night I read somewhere that they wouldn’t rush to name a new captain out of respect for Christopher.  Um, two things:

1.)  I get that, but right now your team is captainless and after the game last night, they need someone to stand up and tell them they all suck and get them motivated.

2.)  You’re really talking about respect for him right after you traded him?  For reals?

I’m taking this trade much harder than I probably should, but I’m on break so it’s not like I have other things to think about.

I can’t be mad at Lars Nicklas for taking a double minor because I still can’t stop laughing that he actually high-sticked a guy and did so hard enough to draw blood.

Andrej Sekera made the Slovakian Olympic team.  Woo, Reggie!  I’m not a huge fan of him and his bald head, but congrats.  Gooo Olympics!

I decided that if Paul makes Team USA I might have to splurge and get a Gaustad Team USA jersey.  Otherwise I’ll just get an Ovechkin Russia one or a Backstrom Sweden one.  My birthday is, after all, in the midst of all the Olympic fun.

If the Sabres fail to score on 17 power plays like they did last time they played Pittsburgh I will flip shit.  They also better win this game.  I looked for Sidney Crosby when I was at the mall yesterday but alas, it would appear as though he has filled his shopping quota for the month.

OH MY GOD.

THEY TRADED CHRIS CLARK. THEY TRADED THEIR CAPTAIN. WHAT TEAM THAT IS CURRENTLY SITTING IN FIRST PLACE IN THEIR CONFERENCE TRADES THE CAPTAIN?!?!

THIS IS SO AWFUL.

I don’t understand it.  I really don’t.  I could deal with Jurcina getting traded; I always kind of liked him but business is business and sometimes players have to be moved.  But to move CHRIS CLARK?!  And he didn’t even realize he was about to be traded?  That just seems so…harsh.  And in exchange for the two of them, they get the guy who helped lead to Alex’s injury.  Excellent job, GMGM.  Top notch.  This better not mess up the dressing room chemistry.

I was going to write a nice post about how the comeback win for the Sabres was so important after Saturday night and they’re finally playing well in front of Lala and Timmy’s naked chest makes me want to vomit, but I’m too angry.

Right after I heard he got traded I put on my Clark shirt and I’m not taking it off.

George better have something HUGE up his sleeve.  I’m not sure if even a Nicki extension could cheer me up right now.  What if I never get to see him play ever again?  That would be awful!

I’ll never understand why a team would trade their captain.  And now who’s going to be the Capitals captain?  Knuble already seems like a real leader but maybe they’ll want to give it to someone who’s been on the team longer?  I think it’ll come down to Alex and Brooksie.  Alex because he’s well, Alex, and Brooks because all I hear about him is that he’s a great leader already and once Christopher’s time was done he was surely in line for the C and I never even listened because I didn’t think they would TRADE THE CAPTAIN.  But I could see Brooks getting it.  And he’s been in a bit of a slump and he seems like he’s really hard on himself.  And plus, the cougars of Washington might kill the Caps management if he didn’t get the captaincy.

I’m so mad.  I think I’m just going to sit here and stew a while longer.  And I plan on yelling a lot during the game tonight.

Stupid Capitals.  Even the Sabres wouldn’t trade their captain.

Things That Are Good And Things That Are Bad.

Things that are good:

  • SNOW DAY!!!!!  YEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEESSSSSSSSSSSSSS!!!!!!

Thing that are bad:

  • Still having to study for the reading quiz I’ll have if school isn’t canceled tomorrow.

Things that are good:

  • Ryan Miller.  Holy HELL, is that man good at hockey.  It was totally awesome when Sabretooth was bowing down to him.  He’s so good.  My jaw dropped multiple times.  Ryan, I want to thank you for redeeming yourself this year and making it less embarrassing for me to love you (because I don’t really broadcast it anymore, but I do still love him).  You’re so good at being a goaltender.  Just don’t burn out on me, ‘kay?

Things that are bad:

  • Getting shut out by the Sabres.  Um, Caps, you saw tape from their last two games, right?  Yikes, you need to learn how to score on elite goaltenders.

Things that are good:

  • Chris Clark totally looking at me three times.  Love ya, Christopher.

Things that are bad:

  • Fehric trying to flip me a puck and failing miserably.  Things Eric Fehr is not good at:  Shootouts, flipping pucks to dedicated fans during the pre-game skate.

Things that are good:

  • The Sabres killing off that power play the Caps had early on.  Wowzers, Sabres.  I know you have a great penalty kill, but the Caps have a great power play.  Y0u done good, boys, you done good.

Things that are bad:

  • Jose Theodore.  Varly, please get well soon.  (I realize he made some great saves, but all three goals he let in were really, really bad.)

Things that are good:

  • Alex coming over right in front of me and rattling the boards during the pre-game skate.  There were only a couple other fans by me at that time and they all had Sabres stuff on.  Alex, I love you.  I know I said this last December, but you’re HUGE in person.  And your hair is gross.  Yeah, I went there.

Things that are bad:

  • Alex playing arguably the worst game of his career.  First there was missing the WIDE OPEN NET by four feet.  Then there was the dive.  (My mom said Rob Ray didn’t think it was much of a dive and she didn’t either, but it happened right in front of me, and, well, it was pretty embellished.  Oh, Alex.)  Then he whined at the refs, and then he broke his stick.  That was just embarrassing.  I put up with so much crap from him, and then he broke his stick, and then I screamed “I STILL LOVE YOU ALEX” while he was getting a new one because I’m just trying to be a good fan.

Things that are good:

  • The Gerbe Derby got his first NHL goal!!  Yay!  Nate-dogg, I do love you so.  Congratulations, little man.  You earned it.  I’m glad you survived your collision with Tyler Myers, and I have to admit that it was pretty darn adorable.  Also, darling, picking on David Steckel is not the wisest idea since he’s twice as big as you.

Things that are bad:

  • Monty stealing Nathan’s first goal so he only got one instead of two.  Steve, that was not so nice.

Things that are good:

  • Henrik Tallinder’s goal.  Like, when the eff did he learn how to do that?

Things that are bad:

  • The Caps allowing Henrik Tallinder to score a goal like that.

Things that are good:

  • The first period.  That was an exciting period of hockey, folks.

Things that are bad:

  • The third period.  That was a really sloppy period.

Things that are good:

  • Lars’s hair.

Things that are bad:

  • I, uh, nope.  Got nothing.  Just look at that HAIR!

Things that are good:

  • The Sabres coming out after two crappy games and playing a really solid, great effort.  Way to bounce back, boys.  Y’all make me proud.

Things that are bad:

  • The Caps win streak ending.

Things that are good:

  • I got to see the secret handshake!!!!  Guys, it is even cuter in real life.  I laughed for about fifteen minutes.

Things that are bad:

  • I don’t get to see these two teams play each other in person again until March 😦

The Caps Are So Good At Hockey!!/The Sabres Make Me Want To Hit Things.

November 25, 2009 at 10:49 pm | Posted in Alex Ovechkin, Andrew Peters, Buffalo Sabres, Chris Clark, Craig Rivet, Frostee Loves Way Too Many Guys, Happy!!, Henrik Tallinder, Lars Nicklas Backstrom, Losing Sucks, Mike Green, Mike Grier, Patrick Kaleta, Players, Ryan Miller, Semyon Varlamov, That was absolutely terrible., This Irks Me, Thomas Vanek, Tim Kennedy, Washington Capitals, Winning Is Totally Awesome | Leave a comment

As usual, I started the game with conflicting feelings. Then Alex scored, and, um, well, you can figure out who I started rooting for after that.

I was really impressed with the Caps tonight. They managed to hold on to a lead in a game that was 1-0 for the majority of it, and they even managed to kill off lots of penalties late. Holy sweet mother of mercy, Mike Green even played DEFENSE. Like, how does that even HAPPEN? It must have been some sort of Thanksgiving miracle. I’m fully confident he will return to suckiness Saturday night. But it was kind of nice seeing him clear the puck out and do various defensive things. Totally weird to watch, but nice.

Varly, you’s a crazy mofo. ILY even if you do think American girls are really fat.

Lars played a very, very good game tonight. Lars has not been as good as he is known to be as of late, so to see him play so well was quite rewarding. He didn’t get any points, but he looked great out there. Just for that, my dear boy, you can have extra pie tomorrow night. Yes, yes, I know how generous that is. But Thanksgiving is a time for not worrying about our muffin tops.

Christopher Sr. continued to be far too shy to actually score a goal with me watching. Bless his heart.

At one point both of my Christophers were on the ice. It was so nice to have all my beloveds in one place.

The Caps played a great game and deserved the win. Pats on the backs for you, Capitals.

The Sabres, on the other hand, make me think that they will never ever play a decent hockey game ever again. How long has it been since they won? Three weeks? Four weeks? Good grief, they looked awful tonight. THEY DO NOT SHOOT THE PUCK. How many times do I have to tell them? SHOOT THE GOSH DARN PUCK, YOU ANTI-PUCK SHOOTERS!

Ryan Miller is keeping this team alive right now. He had absolutely NO support on the Fehr goal. Guys, one of these days he’s going to get hurt again or burn out or have a nervous breakdown, and then what are you going to do? How will you even make it on to the ice if he’s not there to bail you out every two seconds?

The power play sucks so bad I’m not even going to say anything else about it.

Except this: OMG Craigory when you have a five minute power play taking a penalty is so not cool.

(On the flip side, it was totally B.A. how the Caps killed off almost a five minute power play.)

    Timmy K’s dad is a cutie-pie.

Ok, so, I guess it’s time to get to that hit. Here’s the dealio, guys: Alex hit Patty K. Yes, he did. Patrick’s head definitely got hit, but he kinda sorta saw him coming. And I don’t think it was a vicious head-hunting hit. The ejection was probably more deserved than not, but I’d be kind of surprised to see a suspension. And not just because of who he is.

Alex also always scores pretty goals against Buffalo. Buffalo seems to bring out both the best and the worst in him.

Andrew Peters tried to kill someone tonight, apparently. Petey, Petey, Petey. New Jersey has changed you. I miss the cute, cuddly body guard you used to be.

Vanek must still be hurt. He’s got to be. It’s the only explanation for why he’s been so bad lately. Oh, Thomas. Just get your booboos fixed so you can return to being an awesome goal scorer.

The anthem singer tonight looked like a mini Mike Grier. It was rather adorable.

Henrik Tallinder was on the ice for Alex’s goal. I totally called that.

Finally, before I wish you a very happy Thanksgiving and thank you all for reading, I’d like to pass judgment on Alex’s new haircut. Well done, Mr. Ovechkin. Usually your haircuts are pretty tragic, but this one looks great. It’s not too short, but you’ve taken care of that sloppy mess on your head. I love it.

But please, sweetheart, next time refrain from picking your nose while the camera’s on you.

    What A High Score!/What A Low Score!

November 11, 2009 at 9:40 pm | Posted in Alexander Semin, Buffalo Sabres, Chris Clark, Clarke MacArthur, Ryan Miller, Semyon Varlamov, This Irks Me, Washington Capitals, Winning Is Totally Awesome | Leave a comment

I had asked the Sabres to win in a fashion similar to the one they used to beat Edmonton last year. Instead, they beat the Oilers 3-1, and that’s including the empty net goal.

I’ll be honest, until the last five minutes I thought this game was pretty boring. The Sabres continued to not score on the power play (OH MY GOD THEIR POWER PLAY IS SO BAD) but they managed to beat a team playing its third game in four nights. They really needed this win.

Ryan Miller stood on his head yet again. We’re kind of screwed when he finally tires out.

Scary moment near the end when Clarke sent a player into the boards. Clarkey is by no means a dirty player, but I’m just glad we didn’t see any stretchers.

The penalty kill resulting from the hit was spectacular. I was worried from experience that the Sabres would completely collapse, but they pulled it together. Magnificent job, boys. Magnficent.

But can your next game please be exciting?

As for the Caps, it was already 3-1 five minutes into the game, and it ended 5-4. Thank the merciful hockey gods, this time the Caps won it.

Semin decided to be all crazy and scored twice. Eric scored a gorgeous goal during the game and then had a brainfart of epic proportions during the shootout. Varly was awesome stepping in for Theo. Christopher (!!!) won it in the 83rd round of the shootout, and we all lived happily ever after.

    The end.

    Yay Christopher!!

October 23, 2009 at 6:10 pm | Posted in Atlanta Thrashers, Chris Clark, Frostee Loves Way Too Many Guys, Happy!!, Ilya Kovalchuk, Other Teams' Back-up Goalies Kind of Suck, Washington Capitals, Winning Is Totally Awesome, Zach Bogosian | Leave a comment

Christopher Clark, my secret beloved, scored a goal last night.  It was lovely.  I did a happy dance during the highlights when I saw it.

It wasn’t, however, anywhere near as badass as Jeff Schultz’s goal.  That.  Was.  Hilarious.  Like, seriously, Atlanta.  I love you lots, but goals like that make me want to claw my eyes out.  ‘Cept when Varly assists on them.  Then it’s a-o-k.

The Caps/Thrashers game last night was pretty ridiculous.  I missed the first two periods and my dad was sending me score updates and then when I came home it was 5-2.  Washington ended up winning, but it was by a final score of 5-4.  The Capitals need to work on third periods badly.  I’m a wee bit concerned.

Ilya Kovalchuk is pretty beast.  Just throwing that out there.  I know I say how much I love him, but I never really pay all that much attention to him.  He’s huge.  He’s also insanely good at hockey.  I always knew I liked him.

ZACHITY ZACH SCORED A GOAL FOR ME!!  That is all I have to say about that.

I didn’t look this up for last night in particular, but WHOA, the Capitals took/take a lot of penalties.  It’s redonk.  They must look into this matter and fix this as well.

I’m really starting to regret my decision to babysit for six hours tomorrow night.  I’m totally in the mood for a two-games/Don Cherry Saturday night.

I really don’t know what to think about the Sabres game tomorrow night.  Apparently Tampa Bay beat the Sharks…?  Although from what I’ve seen, the Sharks have looked more like little fishies this year.  They did not impress me when they played Washington.

Just watch this video.  There will never, ever be a time when these three don’t completely crack me up.  I always knew there was a reason I liked the bum in the sweats.

Why Don’t The Sabres Have Any Post-game Interviews Up?

September 20, 2009 at 10:27 am | Posted in Buffalo Sabres, Chris Clark, Randomness | Leave a comment

That’s annoying.  I missed the Sabres.  I got to see them play (twice) already, but I haven’t seen a good post-game interview yet.  Sigh.  I want to hear Pommer talk about The System and I want to see Ryan flip shit over a question a reporter asks him.  Really, really badly.

The Caps have been putting up postgame interviews up the wazoo, which is lovely.  See, Sabres?  Even though it’s just the preseason, I’d like to kill time when there’s work to be done hear what you have to say about the game.

    Dear Christopher,

    I approve.

    With Love,

    Frostee

    Poor Sabres/Woo Caps!!

Oh, Sabres. I know it’s just the preseason, but it would have been nice to see you pull out a win./Awesome job, Capitals!! I know it’s just the preseason, but it’s always nice to see a win.

Don’t feel too bad, Sabres. Timmy K got a goal, Drew played pretty darn well, and if this game had actually counted for anything in the grand scheme of things, you would have at least walked away with one point!/You should be proud of yourselves, Caps. This game may not have counted for anything in the grand scheme of things, but Varly played a great game and seeing Brian Pothier get the OT winner always makes me feel warm and fuzzy. Just one question, though: Why was Jeff Schultz getting so much ice time?

Like I already mentioned, this game doesn’t count for anything in the grand scheme of things. It was still, however, a hockey game, and I had an amazing time. Hockey is hockey, Dear Readers, and hockey is back.

One of the better parts of the evening took place during the warmup. As you know, Cari was kind enough to make me a sign so that I could share with the world my love for Alexander and my hope that he would have a happy birthday. However, I didn’t want to look like the dumb chick who thought Alex would be there, so we took a Sharpie and wrote on the back that I knew ge wasn’t there, and that I loved Chris Clark too. Christopher and I do, after all, have a little inside joke, and I thought he could use some love. And I didn’t feel the need to list that he’s actually my fourth-favorite Capital. (Although after last night, I think he made the jump to #3)

When the warmup began I took my sign down to the ice and flipped it back and forth so that the team could see both sides. I suspected that he was looking my way, and sure enough, he was eyeing my sign. I waved. He looked me straight in the eye and smiled. I about died.

Then, a few minutes later, when he and Mike Knuble were standing in front of me, I distinctly heard him say, “Hey, look at that sign.” Then he pointed.

So, Dear Readers, that was the highlight of my evening. Just thought I’d share it with you.
