Tomorrow, bright and early, I will be leaving for The DC Adventure. I can’t decide which part I’m more excited about. Washington is one of my favorite places on the planet, so the thought of going there AND seeing the Caps play is really exciting.
I may or may not live-blog the car ride down there since I finally got myself a car charger for my phone. That depends on how bored I get/how obnoxious I want to be. Stay tuned.
I’ll be at the game tomorrow night which will supposedly be shown on Versus….? Like I said in a previous post, I think I’ll have an embarrassing sign with me. I plan on making it during the Sabres game tonight. I have no shame. (But don’t worry, it doesn’t involve marriage proposals. So I guess I do have a little shame.)
Friday we’re doing all the Washington monuments and memorials and a few museums. We’ve already had several heated debates within the family about which ones to go to, since some of us have seen certain museums more often than others. I hope to hit up the Holocaust Museum for visit #4 because that one never gets old and I’d like to see the Smithsonian Museum of American History since out of the Smithsonians I’ve seen that one the least. Actually, I’m not sure if I’ve ever been there. Hmm. I can’t wait to see the cherry blossoms. I’ve already been there one other time when they were in bloom and if you haven’t then trust me on this: it’s one of those things you’ve got to see before you die.
We talked about going to a Caps practice if they have one but nixed it. Oh well, that’ll give me an excuse to come back for a game.
I fully plan on taking a picture with the Capstronaut if he’s there. 100%. I will also be getting one with Slapshot. I’m bringing my coupon from the Caps Kids Club (where the kids get in the game!) to redeem for my Slapshot bobblehead. I may or may not lie about whether the bobblehead is for me or my “younger sister,” but if they ask for my membership ID (Yeah, I know. I have an ID card and everything. It’s legit.) I’ll have to be honest with them.
The Caps have looked none too good lately and I’m thinking that 1.) it’s because Brooks was out and he’ll be returning tomorrow night so no worries! and 2.) little a-holes, slumping right before I come to a game.
Several members of my family are a little disappointed to learn that instead of seeing Ilya Kovalchuk and the Thrashers, they’re seeing the Ex-Sabres. I’m just excited to see Zachity Zach.
Alex Ovechkin WILL have a crappy game tomorrow night. He will not register any points, he’ll look terrible, people will scratch their heads. I promise. It always happens when I’m at the games. I guess it’s three cheers for consistency.
The Sabres better beat the snot out of Florida because Ottawa is breathing down their necks and they just need to get the points and lock this baby up.
Er, um, the Sabres won. I just got a little confused with all the callups.
I missed some of the game, but isn’t it kind of frightening that a guy can win the Vezina one year and look like TimTom did last night the next? Are we sure we want to risk that with Ryan?
(Let me answer that for you: yes, it’s a chance I’m willing to take.)
I’ve been paying more attention to the lower seeds and while I NEVER underestimate an opponent, the Bruins wouldn’t be the worst first-round matchup for the Caps.
I love Ennis the Menace a bunch. For reals. He’s just a gem.
I may or may not be making an incredibly embarrassing sign for the game on Thursday. It sort of depends on if I have time to make it. Stay tuned.
I didn’t make it through last night’s game. I skipped all of the third except for the last two minutes because I really didn’t feel like watching the Sabres lose to the Senators again. The way the Sabres’ luck goes, they’ll end up playing Ottawa at some point. They’ll get swept. It’ll be ugly. Water will still be wet.
Tonight, however, was just a ton of fun. I live for games like this. Yeah, hard-fought, close games are exciting, but there’s nothing more relaxing for me than watching the Sabres beat the crap out of another team. Derek Roy even got himself a hat trick! That was just so cute. I thought Tyler Ennis played pretty well too. I really liked him when he got called up last time too. Good kid. Neither of the Tampa Bay goalies were very good but hey, I’m not complaining.
And Patty Lala got his 200th career win! I honestly thought he would retire with 199 wins. He even looked pretty good aside from the one goal he gave up. That was kind of ugly.
And perhaps the biggest deal about tonight is that the Buffalo Sabres are going to the PLAYOFFS. I still think they’ll get swept in the first round, but at least they’ll be going. I haven’t had this Sabres-related excitement in several years. It’ll be fun. I can’t wait.
Although if any team could find a way to choke out of the playoffs after already clinching a spot, it would be this team right here.
Last night the Sabres played Montreal and the Caps played the Pens. The Caps game was exciting and frustrating and nerve-wracking until the very end, with Inappropriate Older Crush Mike Knuble being the shootout HERO and winning the game. Jose Theodore has been so good lately I don’t even know how to describe it. It’s pretty cool.
I didn’t see as much of the Sabres game aside from the last five minutes of regulation, overtime, and the shootout because the five other minutes I did watch at the start of the second period was spent killing Sabres penalties. It was almost comical. Good LORD, I thought at a certain point the refs would just stop calling them because it was embarrassing. Guess not.
Then after I was feeling all warm and fuzzy about the Caps game I flipped back over to see the Sabres score two goals with Miller pulled and then win it in the shootout. Those DARN KIDS. I just CAN’T FIGURE THEM OUT ANYMORE.
I do know, however, that with all this happiness and fuzziness surrounding them, they will proceed to lose in heartbreaking fashion tomorrow night against Ottawa. Those little effers.
I’ve only been half paying attention to the Caps game on now but the Caps are losing and Alex has not regained the goals or points lead and Varly is frustrating me. Remember how you used to play, Semyon? Let’s try to play like that!!
At this time in exactly one week I will be in the Verizon Center watching the Capitals play the Thrashers. I’M. SO. EXCITED!!!!
DID YOU KNOW THE CAPITALS ARE PLAYING THE PENGUINS TOMORROW? ME NEITHER! IT’S SUCH A HUGE REGULAR SEASON MATCH-UP, I CAN’T BELIEVE THEY HAVEN’T BEEN HYPING IT AT ALL!!
And there’s my important news announcement for the evening.
I feel really bad about the crummy posting job I’ve been doing lately. I love this little blog and I hate how I’ve neglected it, but I’ve been so busy that whenever I get a minute I’m too tired to come up with anything to say. I’m sorry. I suck. I promise I’ll post six times a day over the summer and then you’ll all be sick of me.
The Sabres game tomorrow is pretty big against Montreal. They could really get business done between tomorrow and Ottawa on Friday, however, I try to be realistic about this team so I know it’s foolish. Sigh. Sometimes they play awesome games like on Sunday, and sometimes they make me think they’re the worst first-place team in hockey.
I know a lot of people have already mentioned it and it’s not like I’ve got anything earth-shattering to add to the discussion, but from where I’m sitting in March, this whole Torres thing seems like a little bit of a bust. Maybe things’ll change in the playoffs. Maybe he’ll just be another awful rental. Sighx2.
This game is far from over, but right now the Sabres are winning 3-0 and I’m really enjoying myself. They’re just so fun to watch!
Maybe they have multiple personality disorder or something.
School is interfering with everything. It’s so lame. No one wants diagrams of the hearts distracting them from Jason Pominville getting a hattrick. (And bless him for that, what a good little boy!)
I was pleasantly surprised by the Sabres game Thursday night. It was fun. They scored lots of goals. Until he forgot that this is the 2009-10 season, Ryan was pretty darn good. That one save on Vinny was wonderful.
I still have no faith in the Sabres to win tonight. It’s a trust thing. I started trusting them, they stabbed me in the back, and now I simply can’t trust them. Plus I would think Lalime would have to start either tonight or tomorrow afternoon, and we all know how well those games go.
The Caps lost in overtime because I complimented Fat Mike (the hockey player formerly known as Michael) earlier in the day and he got rather overconfident and proceeded to make bad decisions near the end of the game. Eric Fehr, however, continues to be totally awesome. I wuv him. He’s so good this year. I’m especially fond of him playing with Flash. There was just something about the two of them back when the Caps were here earlier in March.
I’m worried about Varly. I’m sorry. I can’t help it.
In a recent episode of Caps Red Line I was watching the other day while procrastinating, Lars Nicklas revealed to us that he likes to talk a lot on the plane. I feel like he’s the hyperactive little kid on the team who gets all wound up on sugar and starts bouncing off the walls until Uncle Mike Knuble takes him over to the corner and makes him calm down. It’s a really amusing mental picture.
Lars Nicklas Backstrom is SO GOOD and I don’t know why he hasn’t been re-signed yet.
Yesterday was Mama Ovechkin’s birthday. We’re a big fan of her over here, so happy birthday Mama O!!
I have come to the conclusion that the Sabres are a bad team with a good goalie, but by the time I turned on the game last night Ryan had already been pulled. That’s awesome guys. Really really awesome. At this point it’s almost a lock that they’ll make the playoffs, but it’s nice to know that they want to go into the postseason on a role.
Don’t tell anyone, but the Caps are really impressive when Alex is out of the lineup. Those kids, they just keep on plugging along. Brooks Laich is awesome.
So Alex got two games. This certainly isn’t a surprise, and the Caps have already proven that they can win without him. Am I p.o.’d that Sidney just got an even better chance of beating him for Rocket Richard? Yes. Yes, I am.
This suspension wasn’t going to be enough for some people and it was going to infuriate others. To be perfectly honest, I didn’t think he should get suspended, and I’d like to think I’m not saying that just because I’m a Caps fan. But I can see why people would argue in favor of suspension. There’s too much gray area. The one thing that really pisses me off is the connection being drawn between him and Cooke. Um, no. Not at all.
And this isn’t going to quiet those, “Ovechkin is dirty” fans out there, but whatever. Once again, you can’t claim that he has avoided punishment since this is now his second suspension.
And I think I speak for everyone when I say that for the sake of his weight, this had better be the last suspension.
Both the Sabres and Caps went to overtime. The Sabres lost. (Let’s not talk about it, Tyler.) The Caps won because Lars Nicklas Backstrom is so good at hockey and I don’t even know what words to use to describe him anymore.
For yesterday: the baby pictures made my life, I’m really sorry but I love Pavel Datsyuk, and Jochen Hecht played an amazing game. Too bad he couldn’t look like that more often.
Today: I love Nicki, I love Nicki, Flash and Fehric are really good together, and I love Nicki.
I’m not even going to say anything about Alex’s hit on Campbell. It looked like Soupy toe-picked. In one angle it looked like Alex got his back and from another angle it looked like he got his arm. I really don’t know. There’s no consistency in the NHL so it could go either way. The one thing I don’t like is Alex being compared to Matt Cooke. They are so completely different.
This game was really huge, because if it turns out it is a Stanley Cup Finals preview, I think Washington won the mental war today.
I’m not going to be able to see either game on Tuesday since I have a concert, but I already know what’ll happen for Buffalo: Atlanta will win. MacArthur and Max are probably going to have career nights too. At least the Sabres are predictable.
